Advertising policy
Nebula may consider carefully selected advertising or sponsorship that is relevant to athletic education and compatible with reader trust. Advertising is not a clinical endorsement, an editorial conclusion or a promise that a product is suitable for every person.
At the time of this review, on 1 October 2026, Nebula does not run third-party advertising scripts. This policy sets the rules that would apply if a placement or sponsorship were accepted in future, so that readers and advertisers understand the standard in advance. It also follows the principles of Indonesian advertising ethics and consumer protection law, which expect advertising to be honest, identifiable and not misleading. The editor decides whether any proposal is compatible with the publication. The policy applies to display placements, sponsored articles, newsletters and any other paid or in-kind arrangement connected to the site. It is separate from the editorial policy, which governs what the desk writes, and the two documents are read together. At the time of the 1 October 2026 review, no paid placement appears on the site.
1. Clear labelling
Paid placements are labelled with plain terms such as Advertisement, Sponsored or Partner content. The label remains visible wherever the placement is encountered.
A label is placed directly above or beside the placement in text of ordinary size, and is not hidden in a footer or shown only on hover. Sponsored articles also name the sponsor in the first line and describe the nature of the relationship, for example "supported by" or "prepared in partnership with". If a placement is repeated in several locations, each instance carries the label. Labels are written in English, with a Bahasa Indonesia equivalent where the placement is aimed at Indonesian readers. A label is placed directly above or beside the placement, in text large enough to be read without zooming. Labels are also exposed to screen readers, so that a reader using assistive technology receives the same information. A placement is never styled to resemble an article headline or a navigation link.
2. Editorial independence
Advertisers cannot buy favourable reviews, suppress a correction or require a writer to change an evidence-based conclusion. Editors retain control of headlines and placement of independent stories.
An advertiser cannot preview unpublished articles, choose the writer of an independent piece or ask that a topic be avoided because it is unflattering. If an advertiser's product is discussed in editorial content, the discussion follows the usual evidence standard and may include limitations. Sponsorship agreements state in writing that editorial control stays with Nebula, and any attempt to override that term can lead to the end of the relationship. A sponsor may not read or approve an article before publication, and may not request the removal of a statement because it is unfavourable. If a sponsor asks for a factual correction, the desk assesses it using the same standards as for any reader. The agreement between the desk and a sponsor is recorded in writing, and the record is kept for 24 months.
3. Restricted claims
Nebula does not accept claims that a product cures a condition, guarantees performance, is universally safe or must be purchased immediately. Claims must be supportable and appropriately qualified.
Examples of claims that would be rejected include statements that a product removes a medical condition, that it works for everyone, that it delivers a specific number of kilograms lost or seconds gained, or that an offer will vanish at a stated moment. Comparative claims must be supported by documents the advertiser can show on request. Testimonials must come from real, identifiable customers who have given permission, and the advertiser must be able to confirm them. Placements promoting tobacco, alcohol, gambling, adult content, weapons or unlawful drugs are not accepted.
4. Health products
Products touching health, supplements or training safety receive additional scrutiny. A placement does not replace advice from a clinician, pharmacist or qualified professional.
Additional scrutiny includes a request for the advertiser's registration with the Indonesian food and drug authority (BPOM) where it applies, plus the evidence behind each statement. Products that make health claims without suitable registration or evidence are declined. Nebula does not accept dietary products whose marketing relies on disease claims. Even an accepted placement is accompanied by a line reminding readers to seek professional advice before using a product related to health. Statements in a placement must be accurate and capable of being supported with documents that the desk may ask to see. Comparisons with named competitors, exaggerated promises and wording that suggests a certain result are not accepted. Where a placement refers to a regulated product, the advertiser must hold any registration required by Indonesian rules, such as BPOM notification, and show it on request.
5. Audience protection
We avoid targeting children and do not use sensitive health profiles for advertising. The site does not sell a reader list or permit advertisers to identify individual readers from contact messages.
The publication is written for adults, and advertising aimed at children or at minors is not accepted. Placements cannot be selected using health conditions inferred from a reader's behaviour, nor by using information from contact messages. Advertisers do not receive reader names, email addresses, telephone numbers or message content. Any measurement reported to an advertiser is limited to aggregate figures, such as the number of views of a labelled page. Nebula does not give an advertiser access to personal data about readers and does not allow third-party tracking scripts inside a placement. Aggregate figures are retained for 24 months for reporting and are then deleted. Any change to this practice would be described in the privacy and cookie policies before it applies.
6. Data and cookies
Advertising partners, if introduced, must be disclosed in the privacy and cookie pages. Optional storage will require a clear choice, and rejecting it will not block ordinary reading.
Before any advertising partner is activated, the privacy policy and cookie policy will be updated to name the provider, the cookies used, their lifespans and the country of processing. The cookie banner will offer a separate choice for advertising storage, and its default will be off. Choosing to reject has no effect on access to articles, the glossary or the contact form. At present, the only cookie set is cookieChoice, a first-party preference with no advertising purpose. Examples include a link to a government guideline, a university paper or a professional association page. These links are chosen by the editor and are not added at the request of an organisation. The desk does not trade links, and it does not accept payment to change the position or the wording of an editorial link.
7. External landing pages
Advertisers control their own destinations, terms and privacy notices. Readers should review those documents and make decisions independently of Nebula's educational material.
Nebula reviews the destination page of a proposed placement before accepting it, and again from time to time while it runs. If the page later changes in a way that conflicts with this policy, for example by adding a prohibited claim, the placement can be paused or removed. A reader should check price, delivery, returns and data practices on the advertiser's own site, since Nebula is not a party to any sale. Nebula does not process payments for advertisers and does not take responsibility for an advertiser's service. A reader who has a concern about a purchase should contact the advertiser first and keep a record of the exchange. Consumer complaints in Indonesia can also be directed to the relevant consumer protection body under Law No. 8 of 1999. The desk will remove a placement if it learns that the advertiser is not meeting its legal obligations.
8. Complaints
Report a misleading placement, unclear label or prohibited claim through contact.php. Include the page, date and a description so the desk can investigate with the relevant partner. The desk acknowledges reports within 7 business days and aims to resolve them within 14 days. A placement that is found to breach this policy is paused while the matter is examined. The reader who made the report is told of the outcome when contact details were supplied.
9. Review
Advertising relationships are reviewed for relevance, transparency and reader impact. Nebula may remove a placement when facts change or the relationship no longer meets this policy. A placement is reviewed at the end of each agreed period, and it is not renewed automatically. Material that becomes inaccurate during the period must be corrected by the advertiser within 7 days, or it is removed. The desk keeps a note of each removal and the reason for it for 24 months.
